Temps here hit a record-breaking 72 yesterday, and the soil is perfectly workable! I dug way too many holes for bulbs and my back is screaming. I'll go out and do it again tomorrow, because we only get 1 or 2 more good days before winter returns.

I worked until after sunset in short sleeves, what a wonderful day! Then I watched KU beat Kentucky in a nailbiter...too close.

While I was planting those three roses five days ago, I scraped my shin on one of the rocks that surround my flower beds and got the most hideous skin tear. Oddly, it didn't hurt when it happened, but the pain has been escalating since then. Needless to say, I haven't been outside except to check the mailbox for the last 5 days. I have to guard against infection and I also can't really put any weight on that leg. Luckily, it has been raining, so the roots of my new roses won't dry out while I'm recuperating.

Sorry to hear about your injury zuzu, hope you heal quickly! Good timing planting your new roses, I love it when it rains after planting new stock Thumbs up

It was warm and sunny here all weekend. Saturday the ground was still frozen and just starting to thaw on the surface, which made for slippery spots around the yard. Just cleared some leaves from the garden Saturday, but yesterday the soil had thawed and I was able to do a lot of weeding. I was actually in the garden to put all the markers back in the ground that had been heaved up by freezing and thawing soil, but I don't waste the effort to squat- might as well pull the weeds while I'm down there! Rolling on the floor laughing

I made a trip to Lowe's today and lucked up on a 90% off sale.
Here is what I bought. Somehow missed getting a photo of hybrid tea 'Tropicana'.

Under $10? This would be a good deal even if you made a mistake and meant to type under $100.

Wow, Larry, what a score! The regular price would have been a super bargain for those roses! I would faint from shock if I saw a Lavender Veranda at our Lowes.
Zuzu, I hope you have some powerful medicine on your injury. One of the women in our Rose Society is a veterinarian, and she is constantly warning us of the dangers of infection from injuries in the garden. Crying Group hug

Major score, indeed !
Talk about perfect timing !

We don't have an abundance of wild critters around here, except for squirrels and some occasional possums.
It's the raccoons that scare the daylights out of me, especially the huge ones.

Cindi, I'll certainly be more careful in the future. The skin tear is now 10 days old, and today I'm going to the hospital for a wound check. It was fine until a couple of days ago, when it got red and angry and incredibly painful. The area below the wound, including my foot, is swollen. I drew a pen line around the red portion to make sure it isn't growing. It hasn't grown since yesterday, but the pain's getting worse and worse.

Whew! My worst-case scenario didn't happen. I'm a great believer in the power of negative thinking. All of the terrible things that have happened to me have been surprises, so I now try to envision the worst in advance, thereby guarding against it. I expected the nurses and doctor to take one look at the wound and immediately call for an x-ray, which would show the start of osteomyelitis. I even took my nicotine lozenges and a copy of my advanced care directive with me in case I'd end up in the hospital.

None of that happened. They redressed the wound and gave me an oral antibiotic to take for the next 10 days. I'm happy. Smiling

Zuzu: Just make sure you take the entire 10 days worth of the antibiotic...as if you didn't know that already.
This might also be a prudent time for you to start wearing PANTS when you're gardening and not dresses !!!
Glad your worst fears didn't come true. Smiling
