I wasn't joking. It wouldn't be the first midnight plant rescue mission I've carried out. I had my longest extension cord ready to go, although I doubted it was necessary but thought I'd ask anyway. I've seen a few pics on ATP of sempervivum popsicle disasters.

Did the plant database picture mechanism change? I tried to add a picture by going to the plant's ATP database page and using the "Upload a photo" link. It accepted the photo but I didn't get a chance to enter a date or a comment as I have in previous photo additions, and the photo never showed up in the database. I've looked around but don't know how else to do this.

It was Tectorum 'Ornatum'. In previous photo additions I remember entering a date and a comment, but didn't get that chance this time. That made me think either I was doing the wrong thing or the procedure had changed.

The procedure hasn't changed. Try it again. It is nowhere to be found.

I figured out the problem, pilot error, let's just leave it at that. *Blush*

This semp appears as happy is could possibly be considering the ice and frost and heaving gravel.

I decided to use Chris's plexiglass label holders with white-on-black labels. For me, it's the best compromise between readability and subtlety. I tried using black-on-clear label tape but that was so subtle it was downright invisible. I couldn't find the darn things, let alone read them. An additional benefit is that if you order semps from Chris she already includes labels in just this style. Great minds think alike. nodding

Tim that semp looks downright happy. Tough little guys aren't they. Big Grin

Chris's labels are wonderful in a garden setting. Long lasting (practically lifetime), unobtrusive, and do the job they were created for. Hurray!
And Bev is right, hopefully we will all get to see Chris in person this spring (April). Hurray!
I for one am really looking forward to this happening. Lovey dubby

I cross posted with you Greg and Anna.

Anna, looks like the lower leaves died. Once they start actively growing again you can decapitate the tall one, let the cut heal over and lay it on the soil. It will grow new roots. What is your weather like now?
I notice you have them in containers, you might rotate them occasional since they are not in full sun. They start leaning towards the sun unless in full sun. But your summer full sun would probably kill them. In the winter you could possible place them in full sun?
Your 'Emerald Empress' is really showing some nice coloring. Thumbs up

Everyone's plants look so good. Thanks for posting pictures so I can enjoy them too - I think it will be a few months before I'll see mine again. (Under quite a bit of snow these days.)

Anna, if you don't like the looks of those bare-trunked semps, and you don't want to do surgery , you can do some creative landscaping. Just tuck some stones, twigs, gravel, or whatever you have handy underneath to hide the bare spots.
I love Centennial, Lynn.
