I had no idea they bloomed like that. Do you know how often they bloom? How long the blooms last?

I didn't either. I was told from buds to blooms, they could last for a few weeks, depending on the location (on a tree) and time of the year (cooler weather) the blooms could last for a month. And then it produces babies and the mother plant will not bloom again.

How interesting. Does the mother plant die after blooming?
Hmmmm, makes me wonder how you know when you buy one if it has already bloomed?

Gigi is your fish a McCoy? I remember those pots from years ago. I especially liked the dogs.

Last year was the first we've set the am bulbs out, I think most of them increased in size by a third. We dug them up in the fall and Holly cut off the foliage and allowed them to go dormant for about 2 months before starting them. Smiling

I have one sitting out on our back deck, the deck has a roof over it. Checked it out yesterday and it is solid as a rock and dormant. When our weather warms up I will plant it in the ground with lots of compost in the hole. Thumbs up

Lynn, the mother plant will eventually die but there will be more than 1 pup to replace the mother plant, then if you have mature pups already, they could bloom more than once a year. I will add the names of these Tillandsias I have. The ones I have are not yet fully bloomed, the blooms are blue: The one I really like is the Tillandsia pink Quill. Next time I'm at HD I will get one.

Ric, not sure what this fish planter is, this is approximately 50 years old planter. I inherited it from my grandma who passed away a couple years ago. Crying

Edited to add: the mother plant that has already bloomed will have pups on the base and will have a dried flower stalk.

What a lovely reminder of some one you love so much.
I have some McCoy that belonged to my grandmother, then my mother. They are treasures to me.

The pots I always go awww I love is Lynn's Swan and Gigi's fish.

When my mother passed I told my sisters there was no discussion I wanted the two McCoy pots that I remember that was always in the living room.

My mom was a plant lady and had a lot of plants and pots but those two were always in the living room. It was a cat and a Girl pot.

I use houseplants in my containers for the summer patio. I do not usually by them this early but when you see them on sale you buy. They will be a lot more expensive this summer.
Begonia 'Escargot' One of my favorite Begonias that I killed a couple of years ago.

Gigi your plants sounds like a Bromelaid and Sempervivum. They bloom/make babies and die or do not bloom again the babies are the next generation of beauty.

Beautiful container photos Cinta.

Yes you are right about the Tillandsias Cinta: I think the Pink quill even has the same bloom as Bromeliads. They are now on my oak tree as they are almost done blooming. I can't wait for them to have babies!

Holly does your Tillandsia make a lot of babies after it blooms? I've seen some pics here inATP where theirs would have 2 or 3 babies. Now, am not sure how fast they grow into blooming size.

Cinta I love bromeliads, they are so pretty but expensive even here in FL. I was drooling over someone's post that she got hers for $5 on Lowe's clearance.

Gigi that is how I started collecting the Bromelaids. I have got them all from lowes for 5.00, I really hit pay dirt when I got one for 3.00 one day. They are reg price of 18.00. I am really starting to love them because they are so easy. I had no idea they were this easy. They are easier than the succulents that I love.

A little water in their cup and they are beautiful for a year and they are making babies. I got all these for 5.00 and 3.00 at Lowes.

Gigi, I'm really not sure about them making a lot of babies after blooming. I've never really thought about it much but it does produce more plants. I have never thought about how many or how quickly they grow. I have all mine mounted on a wreath with Spanish moss, so it isn't quite the same as maybe having one plant in a ball where growth habit is very obvious. Here are a few pictures as you can see one of the plants on the wreath will put out a new bloom soon and a different one is blooming now.

Cinta, Your Broms look great. I have been neglecting mine. They need serious dividing maybe next summer I have some big pots that are so big and heavy I can barely lift them. I actually let one in the Barn for the winter it won't live, just couldn't get around to dividing it into smaller pots and share it and I had no more room in the GH for a pot that big. Seems every year I have to let a plant or two go,

Holly have you ever thought about making a tree. I plan to do it this year. I was going to do it last year but did not get around to putting it together. I picked up the pot at the end of the season so I have a big enough pot for the limb now. It is one of those big styrofoam pots so it will not be heavy.

This is what I am talking about.
