Great tutorial Cinta. How much light do they need if brought indoors for the winter?

None. I have them in a corner of the room. They are a shade plant in their natural habitat growing in the hook of tree limbs. That is why they are perfect. I cannot believe I never tried to grow these before.

They were perfect in the back of the garage last summer. I have never had a nice display in that area because of all the trees and the garage wall blocks the light. This is the area I am going to put the Bromelaid tree this summer since they did so good last year in that area.

Now that is truly an interesting plant. And it should be easy to bring indoors for winter done as a tree.

Yes Lynn it is the perfect plant. When we get request for suggestions for good houseplants for office and corners of rooms in houses that do not have a lot of light I am going to start suggesting this plant. I have never seen many people mention this plant as a houseplant.

Most of them do take some care when handling, the leaves have sharp edges. Depending on the variety they can be very sharp.
There are just so many beautiful Bromiliads and the flowers when they bloom are amazing.
This is the bloom from my Silver Vase Bromiliad. It bloomed for me this past summer. I don't have a very good pic of the whole plant to show you.

Cinta, I went into the Plant Database to add my picture and saw that you had contributed several pictures of the Silver Urn in bloom as well.

I really like Bromiliads too. I thought that tree was really a cool idea. I should look at doing something like that with a large piece of driftwood.

You could hang it in the top of the GH instead of standing it in a pot.

In Florida, many office buildings have bromeliads in their lobbies. The blooms last for such a long time, and when they're done, they just replace the plant. They probably only have to replace them once or twice a year. That's still cheaper than buying cut flowers every week.

There are also several that can take partial sun or full sun even. I get those sometimes because the foliage colors are so pretty. Very versatile.

Zoe - small bromeliad whose leaves turn more red with higher light intensity.

And my Fireballs in my spill pot - you can see how some of the plants are more green (grown in more shade) and some are more red (higher light)

LOL Gigi, The only problem here is there is no voice of reason. Any plant, any project we both just jump right in. A few years ago I came home from a visit to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and started talking about putting in a Tree Peony Bed. I wanted 5-7 of these plants and a whole new raised bed for them. Ric didn't say Well that's a lot of $$ and a lot of work. No he jumped on the computer and started picking out Tree Peonies. Rolling on the floor laughing We haven't gotten around to putting in the bed yet a problem with my back kinda slowed us down but we are both still on board for the job. Whistling

A tree fell on my tractor last year. When they came to cut it up I had them cut a couple limps that looked like it would work. Now I have choices of limbs. I was going to go down in my woods and find a limb.

That saved me from going in my woods and fighting the deer to find a good limb.

Holly, I did not remember submitting the picture.

Gigi, I know nothing much about all the different ones and very little about the one I am buying . The ones I have been picking up at Lowes I am told they grow on trees drink through the center cup and the dead leaves and frog poop drinking the water in the cup is their fert. My understanding is they are like orchids.
