Thank you all for the warm welcoming! So my iris bed started off with maybe 20, but I caught iris fever so quickly and before I knew it I had more than I thought I ever would! My mom has had a decent sized iris bed for the past 20 years, but only a few different varieties of historics. She needed to divide them and I said I would try them out, but then I discovered this forum as well as the Iris Sisters ebay auctions and all of the newer hybrids (particularly everyone's insanely beautiful pictures) seduced me Drooling

Since December I have already placed several orders from Stouts, Napa, Iris Sisters, and Superstition, but I am going to get in trouble with space when I need to divide them all!

I posted some historics that I got from Arlyn yesterday... but I think when someone sends an extra, it's something that they really like and want to share with people they think will appreciate it... So I'm looking forward to these bonuses that Arlyn sent:

more trades that I'm looking forward to tomorrow...

Welcome! Liz! I think the percent of bloom that first year depends on a lot of things. The time planted, and the length of the growing season being two factors that seems to affect them a lot. With our shorter growing season in Wisconsin, I usually am around 50% bloom on new plants. I know other people South of me seem to get a much higher rate of bloom.

Golden Gaga by Painter is one I'm looking forward to seeing, Thanks to Brad.

Hi Liz. Welcome! from me too!! You've made an excellent start into Iris Addiction I tip my hat to you. and you're in the right place to continue right on down that happy path!!!

It helps to know that Irises *set* their buds the year before -- if they've had what they needed to do so. So -- you'll have a higher percentage of blooms from Irises that you purchased from professional growers than you will from friends and neighbors who are thinning their over-grown clumps. So any guess at percentage of blooms is just that -- a guess.

But you're going to have an amazing, exciting spring seeing Irises for the first time. It's what we all live for. Whistling Big Grin

Welcome! , Liz! Nice to have new folks join the madness. Smiling As you can see, we're all addicted. I had my start by seeing all the lovelies posted here and they've been extremely generous with help and boxes! Most of mine are new, too, so I'm hoping this year will be fabulous.

Hello Liz. I'll add my welcome too. Glad to have another iris lover here.

Leslie, Parting Glances is just lovely. I do love the medians!

One of the smallest I am looking forward to seeing bloom is an MDB called India Ink. This photo from Winterberry shows a tiny, well formed iris with satiny falls and a yellow beard. I hope someday to have a clump of these little guys.

We start with the I. pumila, then the other minis & go through the taller bearded iris to the Siberians.
