Thank you for the info everyone, I guess I will just have to be patient and see what happens. Needless to say Spring cannot come soon enough for me!!! It's really exciting to see everyone else's irises too. I feel like there is always a new one that I see and love Lovey dubby

Lucy, thank you for the heads up about the show, I will definitely be there! Do you know if there is going to be another rhizome sale at Verrill Farm in July this year?

Jan, I got my rhizomes from a bunch of places before I knew much about where to order the best stuff. I feel like I've done my research now so I ordered from top vendors for this season. My mom gave me some of her historic increases, which look SO small compared to the newer hybrid rhizomes, but are already showing increases. I got a bunch of SDBs from Winterberry Iris Gardens, some from local garden stores, a bunch from different ebay auctions including Iris Sisters auctions (I don't think I was bidding against any of you from what I read in the forums, at least I hope not!), I got some from Schreiners, and the rest from Brecks - these actually all have increases surprisingly.

Is it true that only the increases will put out new blooms?

I've found that to be true Liz. Except for Crimson King, it wants to rebloom after division from the main fan.

Yes -- that's true. The mother rhizome will bloom one time -- and then spend her strength growing baby rhizomes on the sides. As the babies grow and become self-supporting, the mother rhizome will generally just die away.

Most anticipated new little guy. Ain't it cute as the dickens? (And where did that expression come from, anyway?) Hilarious!

This one I am looking forward to particularly because it struggled since being planted in 2014, didn't bloom in 2015, thought I lost it to rain rot this past November, but found the tiniest of green side shoots on it 10 days ago. Hurray!

Debra, don't know about other places but in these parts 'all ruffled up' is like saying 'madder than a wet hen'...... and I have seen a few hens whose feathers were all ruffled up. I have that little SDB too and will be glad to see its first bloom. smiles

Yes, does bring up the image of a fluff of ruffled feathers. Hilarious! I don't know where 'cute as the dickens' comes from, though. It isn't one of those back-handed comments like, "Bless your heart" is it?

Thank You! Gabriel! I'm a little shy, but I'm pretty sure that soon you will all be sick of me asking iris questions-sorry in advance! I'm only 29 so I'm still learning the art of gardening. Man is it therapeutic though!

Debra, dickens is another word for devil, so the saying roughly translates to "cute as a devil". It's like saying cute as hell, but in nicer words. That iris does look super cute!

No iris sale this year because we are putting on the show. We alternate years. there will probably be a few dwarf irises for sale at the show. Members auction of newer plants in early august. Join ISM & you can come to the auctions. I will probably be handing out informational material at the entrance to the show.
