I think I traveled through that area back in the 80's. Since I was on a preplanned tour we stopped only at destinations listed on the tour. I wasn't quite the plantaholic back then but if I were to go again today I would sure want to pull over in some spots and explore. Just came across this site:

Interesting crop of seedlings from 'Emerald Spring' X allionii 'Yellow Green form'. Size ranges from near the size of 'Emerald Spring' to a good bit smaller than either parent. Almost all have some red markings on the leaf backs but two have quite dark purple leaf backs, much darker than in 'Emerald Spring'. Form is also variable. None have exactly the starry shape of 'Emerald Spring' nor the incurved leaves and thin multiple leaves of the pollen parent either. Rather all seem to have narrow multiple leaves but in an open sort of rosette similar to 'Emerald Spring'. None of the leaves showed the yellow of the pollen parent although most are paler than 'Emerald Spring' too. I figured the yellow would be recessive, so no surprises there.

My favorite two are the very tiniest one which has orange-red leaf backs and the darkest leaf backed one with nearly black leaf backs. I'll let the people at the clinic decide if I have made the right decision.

I love the diminutive ones so those sound especially exciting! I have had Emerald spring for less than a year, and it is so prolific!! I like that about all the roller types Hurray!
