Same here on the Tolumnias, Lindsey and I just love them but haven't bought another for 3 years. I still have the cute little thumb pots they came in, too . . . Sad

I've since found out by a lot more reading that they are "twig epiphytes" and like to grow on citrus trees. (I wonder how they'll do on my dying citrus trees Crying )

If I see them at Lowe's for $8 or even $10 I might take the plunge again but the only ones I've seen recently were $20 at the orchid show. High light, scanty twiggy mountings, and maybe my fabulous new fert will make it possible to keep one or two alive for more than a year.

Ken they are very tiny plants when they're not in bloom, leaves about 2 or 3in. long at most. Then they burst into bloom in the spring with big sprays of those lovely flowers. You could sell a few big plants and buy a dozen Tols that wouldn't take up as much room.

Some people seem to shy away from compacts, sub-compacts, and miniatures, Elaine. I don't know why. Maybe they don't think they are getting the bang-for-the-buck with small plants. I just really never know what will be a popular seller and what sits forever. Of course, when they sit, they might bloom, so that's good. Hurray!

Ken, I would think... that folks with only sunny window sills would be falling over themselves for compact Catts...and Toulumnia's.. As long as the photo of the flower is excellent..they should sell themselves.
Elaine...I got mine at Lowe's ( years ago) for $12..I was able to grow them in NC...but just killed my last one Blinking

I think my photos are quite good, but perhaps not. I don't have many folks who take the time to look at my website complain about the photos, not that the lack of complaints mean anything. Perhaps they just don't want to hurt my feelings. Whistling

Perhaps I need to create an additional page on my site and label it "Plants for Small Spaces", or something like that. That might draw them in. Shrug!

I spent the day cleaning the OC until it sparkles. I have some new blooms but no time to take pictures. I have a talk tomorrow morning, then back at it. I will sleep well Thursday night.

Yes Ken...a couple of places I've shopped at do just that...Marble Branch Farms comes to mind.
Jim...Hope your garden tour went well..I'm sure everyone was wowed...hope the mulch made a good impression! Whistling

While I wait patiently for several plants to bloom..funny how long some of them take from when I first spot the embryonic bud to flower...I couldn't help but be amazed at this NOID Den...that I got back in October...blooming for $3.00...STILL has a couple of great looking flowers!

Lindsey, I'm still working as the garden tour is tomorrow at about 1:00 PM. I really need a nap.

Yes, the mulch looks great.

Those are lovely, Lindsey. Mine that I bought at the same time just finished blooming about 3 weeks ago.

I gave one to my acupuncture therapist before Christmas, and she told me today it is still blooming, too!

I had 3 plants left over from holiday gift giving, and planted them all in a hanging basket together so IF they survive that casual treatment, it should make a really nice show for a $9 investment.

Oh no! I love those tolumnias! They are like Tillandsia size but bigger blooms. Lindsey I like that Den too!

We went to the Thai Temple in Tampa this weekend, and I was so surprised that the vendor I used to buy orchids from in the Downtown market was there selling orchids. All profits are donated to the temple. I showed her pictures of my Catts and the Dendrobiums I bought from her and she was surprised how well they are doing! She positively identified the Chia Lin my coworker bought from her. And of course I had to buy this "chocolate" smelling Oncidium Lovey dubby

Lovely, Gigi. Those ones with the chocolate scent are amazing, I bought one for my daughter in Utah, and it blooms for her in her bathroom regularly.

Here's my big NOID in full bloom now. I had it indoors with everyone else last weekend when we had two nights in the 40's and haven't sent it outside again just because I'm enjoying it so much on the kitchen counter.

Elaine, that is a knockout orchid. You need to find a name for her. Anything that beautiful deserves a name. Thumbs up

I know it had a tag when I got it, Ken but it is long gone, or has been devoured by the huge root ball. You know me, I really don't care. But I'll keep an eye out at Plantio and the Tropiflora sales because that's where it came from. They may have more.

I'd have to dig back into the old threads on Dave's Garden in 2011 and 2012 when I got it. I have pictures from then but none of them show the tag.

Elaine, that orchid would look pretty darn good on my kitchen counter also. My white den nobile that I bought in bloom last November is on its last flower so it is time to find something new.
