I'd love to see some pictures of your sempervivum gardens! This is one of mine. I added a 2nd one last summer. The little pots all over are tiny hypertufa "pinch pots". I have so many because I have a garden art sale every summer and I sell planted hypertufa pots. Unfortunately when I first started collecting them I didn't keep track of the names so I have lots of noids.

That picture makes my heart beat faster. : ) I just keep looking at it, all the colors and textures. Ahhhh, what a good feeling I have right now. Sorry to say I don't have any beds like that one. Mine are all just scattered in different beds and pots. I just planted a 4 x 8 raised bed the end of Oct. with new plants I got from Squaw Mountain. Very tiny babies, everyone made it through Winter and are just now showing signs of maybe growing. Can't wait to see them once they take off. Here is a pitiful picture taken right after I got them planted in Oct. Doesn't look like much right now, but by Summer time it will start filling up and showing some character.

Lynn, that looks just like my 2nd one! I planted that one about September of last year and its a raised bed. Mine was planted with all new ones too. But it's under about a foot of snow right now. They do look sad when they're first planted though! But what fun when they fill in!

Yes, so much to look forward to. Also puts them where I can find them easily, good drainage and an easy place to propagate from when the time comes. That will be a long time off however on this new bed. I have 115 more varieties coming in April so have to get another bed ready for those babies. When they come I will enter them in the data base. Most of what I have as mature colonies are unnamed. I lost the tags years ago. A few I for some reason just remember. Must have been my favorites at the time. : )

No, sorry, 23 varieties and 115 orders between semps 40 plants, sedum 45 plants and heuffs 30 plants. I understand on some of them it is multiples in each order.

Just came back in from potting up Semp. 'Oddity', had to warm up. I thought I lost it, it was just hiding. : ) It not only made it through the Winter, it had two younsters from last year. I planted them in Al's potting recipe. : ) They are going to love that.
I will take pictures when the order gets here. I am so excited. It is my big splurge for the year.

Oddity is appropriately named. I'm always surprised at how they seem to multiply so much over winter.

What varieties do you have Chris? I might have some you don't have that I can share with you.

I have a lot of noids because I didn't keep track of them for the first few years. When I get home I'll put a list together of the ones I know. Would be fun to trade!

My problem is I don't know What a Jovibarba is, I know about sedum and Sempervivum. What is a Jovibarba? It sound like something I cn't say but pretty. Help!!!!

Yes, he is 8 mo. old and tears up everything. Broke another flower pot this week. No wonder I'm getting gray haired. Can't be my age

Depending on the breed you have at least another 6 months before things start turning around.

You must have weed blocker fabric in there, I don't see a single blade of grass or weed in that bed!.

I like the little hypertufa pots too. Do you make your own? Are they freeform or do you use a mold? I haven't made any small ones, but I have made several large ones using plastic lined cardboard boxes as a mold. I know some people also turn a bowl upside down and pack the material over the bowl to make the round ones.

It sounds like you are an accomplished craft person, with all your beautiful wreathforms too.

I do other concrete crafts, mostly leaf casting with real leaves. I do like that media since it is so durable and long lasting. I have several of those stepping stone molds too.

Hi Diana, Thank you so much! No, I don't have weed blocker fabric in there. I know weeds can tend to get mixed up in clumps and that can be a nightmare. What I do is put some Roundup in a little cup and using a tiny foam paintbrush, I brush the Roundup on the individual leaves of the weeds, being careful not to drip on the semps. That way it kills them off rather than when you try to pull them out of a clump you just end up pulling the leaves off and the roots stay. It really isn't as tedious as it sounds.

Yes, I make all the hypertufa pots. Those little ones in the semp garden are made from leftover tufa from bigger projects. I actually just squish it into plastic sandwich bags! It's stuff that otherwise would get thrown out and people just love those little pots that fit in the palm of your hand. You can tuck them in anywhere. Just put a couple semps in them and they fill in in no time. Do you have pictures of your hypertufa pots? Do you put succulents in them?

Chris how are you beds doing as the winter is receding? Hope all is well with those lovely semps and sedum. I just had to replant about 8 chicks this afternoon. The birds pulled them up. This has been goin on all winter. They might go for a week and not touch them. : (

Wildlife is so destructive in my semp gardens this year. Not sure what's up with that, but they can stop any time now. I can see new growth but need to get the leaves out of the beds so they can dry out faster.

Had to replant a couple of mine again this morning. Funny, the birds don't bother the ones in pots.
