Sue - LOVE those lupines. I finally got some seeds to germinate last year, but no blooms. Am trying again this year and hopefully will have better luck.
I love lupines too. They are something that grows well here. I planted them originally where I wanted them to be but they are self seeders so I guess they kind of plunk themselves!
I make educated plunks.
I bear in mind the needs of the plant and have a general design idea, but am not strict about the design.
I want a very informal garden, so I plunk with a purpose.
Always have an initial plan, but plants, neighbors plantings, changing interests and time play a big part in my garden. Neighbors planted fir trees along the south property line 20 years ago. These 30 foot shade casters have created a whole new plan Always adapting.
As I live in an apartment, I would have to say that I am more of a plunker. I LOVE my plants and would love to have beds, but alas...None of the grounds are mine. The only place I have to plant any sort of bed gets so much shade that virtually nothing will grow there. So, I buy, pot, and plunk. The plan behind my garden is to have flowers and plants that I love...nothing more. No design. I figure that once I have all he plants I want, I can arrange the pots in different areas to create different effects.
I am a plunker. There is no rhyme or reason to my flower beds. I just keep filling in open spaces with garden art and new flowers or transplants. I am forever adding mulch and weeding out what grows that isn't suppose to such as grass and weeds. This is my flag pole flower bed which was my first one.
The side wings on this bed are dedicated to my parents. The railings came from the porch from the house I was raised in. The people who bought it were having it burnt down by the fire department so they could build a business there. The people were kind enough to give me 2 identical railings from the porch.
That is a sunflower. One of those stuffed type with the wire inside the stem. Whenever I see these at sales, I grab them and put them in my gardens somewhere. I put a big one on the roof of the playground set. I stapled it laying down on the roof.
You can see it in this picture. This was taken on 9/27/2012. A lot has changed in the 2 years since that was taken.
Once again I am back. Thank you so much Debra for identifing that plant (Gaura) in my picture with Mary and Joseph. I love that plant. I will have to try to get some more of them. I don't know if it is possible to get seeds from my plant or if it can be divided. Does anyone know? I will try to go a Google search.
Thanks Polly for liking my flower beds. I am for sure a planner but am a plunker when it comes to planting the flowers I order. It seems they always arrive before I know exactly where I want to put them so I just plunk them where there is room. I figure I can always move them the next year or so.
