Hi there Rolando!

I can only speak for the portulaca which doesn't mind sharing with any plants.

Here is a link to the amaryllis forum - maybe those folks will know as I know nothing about the growing conditions of amaryllis.

I sure hope you get it all to grow together Thumbs up

Hello everyone,

I haven't been on here yet because it's still cold here!!! I am waiting for the bulbs to run the course and the spring plants to hit the garden shops.I have an idea of where i'm going to put some of my purslane.I am in the process of making a rock garden and behind it i have planted Agastache 'blue fortune' and some Penstemon spelling? brain block.I am going to put some pots on Shepards hooks in the bed along with humming bird feeder's on some kind of hanger. It's still a garden in the making. Whistling

Can't wait,I love the constantly,brightly blooming plants.

I agree Hurray!
I've been meaning to check the nursery I usually go to! I did go once last month, but no purslanes then, of course! Mid-80's today...hot!

We don't get purslane in the nurseries here until late May which is frustrating. But it also last until November!

Rolando, shame on those cats! Another thing you can do is plant the purslane or portulaca in hanging baskets or large containers.

I need to do hanging baskets because of the chickens. They can eat a little, but if they take too many leaves, up the plants go!

It gets so little respect by most, yet it's got so much potential as both food, herb and ornamental.

As a child I remember Purslane as a weed to be hoed out of the corn fields, as an adult I remember it as a weed to be pulled out of the lawn before it takes over everything. Then one year I bought some ornamental Portulaca from Lowe's, my wife and I both loved it. It only lasted a very short while, the squirrels loved it even more and devoured it in a matter of days. We have never seen another Portulaca locally as lovely as that. We will be looking again this year!

Hanging baskets would not be a deterrent I don't think. But until I can find another plant we won't know.

Hey Becky, it has sure been a long time since I have posted here.
I just wanted to share with you this amazing portulaca that has come back the last 5 years from it's roots. The roots are under the edge of a large container, evidently that provides enough protection. It has gone through weather as low as 6°F and no snow cover.
It doesn't reappear until some time in July, and am I ever happy to see it again.
Thumb of 2015-09-10/valleylynn/e3cb41

I did not know they could do this.

Lynn, good to see you and I love the color of your portulaca. Amazing how seeds will all of a sudden just wake up, huh?
