Hurray! National Banana Bread Day! I've been talking about making Banana Bread off and on the past month but it seems like the bananas are already gone when I decide to bake. Although I currently have a few bananas in the kitchen, they aren't quite ripe enough for bread yet. I need to make a grocery store run in the morning so I'll be sure to get some overripe bananas, sour cream, chocolate chips ... and I better check the frig to see if I have enough butter on hand! Yum, now I'm going to be craving banana bread all night. Green Grin!

I was just thinking yesterday that I have too many bananas for us to eat right now and that I should make some banana bread! They won't be brown for another day or two, so I'll have to celebrate my banana bread day a little late.

Anyone else in here that doesn't like nuts in their banana bread--or zucchini bread, for that matter? Not liking nuts in my sweetbreads means I'm always having to make my own at home. Gosh darn.....being forced to make fresh banana bread...what a shame! Hilarious! Hilarious! I suspect my house will smell very good this weekend from the baking. I save a lot of money on scented candles by cooking at home so often. Rolling my eyes. Green Grin!

Oooh, Lin ( @plantladylin ) , chocolate chips! Now that sounds divine! I've never made my banana bread that way, but I should! Hmmm.......gotta see if I already have the chocolate chips...

Glad to see you got to make yours today! Thanks for the picture, that makes me even more inspired!

Today I just made the one loaf of plain Banana Bread, a simple recipe I found on line with no nuts, chocolate chips etc. I love Banana Bread with or without nuts and I've made it at times using different types of nuts; walnuts, cashews, pecans and even macadamia nuts. One year I had Cinnamon Baking Bits that I added to a batch of banana bread and it was petty goos too. I usually make a few loaves at a time and always a couple of loaves with mini chocolate chips so I know when my husband comes home this evening he will ask where the banana chocolate chip bread is. That one is a favorite with family and friends and especially my husband who is a chocoholic! I also decided to bake a batch of cookies this morning. While rummaging through the pantry I found a couple of packages of Nestle's Buncha Crunch baking bits so I used my go-to chocolate chip cookie recipe and instead of the chocolate chips, I used the buncha crunch ... and they are so good! I wish the grocery stores would carry the specialty baking chips year round. I used to crush up butterfinger candy bars to use for cookies and then a year or so ago they came out with butterfinger baking bits but I only found them that one time. I also love the peppermint crunch baking bits (saves so much time not having to crush candy canes) but they can't be found very often either. I called the company a few years ago and was told that they are seasonal and only on the market at holiday time so I usually stock up but this year I couldn't find them anywhere! Sad

Although I baked early this morning, my house still smells like a combination of banana and chocolate! Green Grin!

You're making me hungry! I'm going to have to make some zucchini bread tonight to tide me over until my bananas are good and ready. Maybe I'll try the chocolate chips in the zucchini bread. (I normally use 'Mom's Zucchini Bread' recipe on AllRecipes.com ...but slightly modified....no nuts and I use brown sugar for half the sugar.)

I haven't had Zucchini Bread in a long time and I should make some of that soon ... minus the chocolate chips though. Green Grin! Although, I could probably get my husband to eat zucchini or any other squash if I added chocolate chips to it. Rolling on the floor laughing

I always make two loaves when I make it and I took it to my neighbor a couple of years ago and her husband ate nearly the whole thing (and it didn't even have chocolate chips in it!)... It's a great recipe, especially if you substitute half the white sugar with brown sugar!

I made it with chocolate chips tonight:

I could have added more chocolate chips, it would seem, but I wanted to err on the side of caution.

Oh, it looks really awesome! I like the idea of substituting half the white sugar for brown!
