Does anyone grow this plant in a BIG pot? I have a small garden and have read this plant can become a thug if the growing conditions are right. I have just received one small plant recently purchased from 'Almost Eden' and so looking forward to having it in my garden.

Gregg's Mistflower will do just fine in a pot, I grow it and the butterflies love it. Smiling

Woohoo ... Fantastic ... such fun to have a 'new to me' plant to watch Thank You! Very excited to see how the pollinators react to the blooms this fall.

@frostweed - just curious. If growing Gregg's mistflower in a pot, will it grow upwards or spill over the side or both? Sure would like to transplant some of mine.

I have another question about this plant. I have transferred the small plant into a l gal pot and set under grow lights for now as we are still having freezing night time temps. This little plant is putting up flower buds!

Do these plants bloom off and on during the growing season? I had hoped to have late season blooms for the butterflies. Thank You!

Yes, they bloom at different times during the season. The plant will get leggy during the summer.
If you cut it back two months before the date you want them in bloom, you should have blooms for the fall butterflies.
But don't forget that the butterflies will be around spring and summer as well as fall. Smiling

Thank you for this additional information and for the reminder to grow different nectar producing plants. I will make a note to trim it back in July so as to have blooms during the Fall Monarch migration. Thank You!

Yes, in my small garden you will see large old fashioned Red Pentas, Verbena bonariensis, butterfly bush, lantana, tropical milkweed (all the little flying things feed off these blooms), Salvia coccinea 'Lady in Red' and what has turned out to be a long blooming and excellent nectar producer, the little milkweed A perennis. My garden is small so I have to be selective in what I grow while attempting to get the most bang for the buck.

I like to try something new each season and this is one of two 'new to me' plants I'm trying this year. Quite curious about this plant as it is reputed to be hardy and attractive to the butterflies. Thanks again for your help.

Yikes, I didn't mean to come across as being snide but re reading my last reply, it sure sounds that way. Please forgive me if I caused offense, as it wasn't intended.

It is great that you mention the need for growing different plants that will provide nectar and food throughout the growing season; this is always a helpful reminder. Growing for the insects and pollinators is different than just growing something for the sake of beauty. I only know what host and nectar plants to grow because of the generosity of gardeners like you, who share so much here on the forums.

So please accept my apology for my recent reply, for the way it read. And thanks again for taking time out of your day to help me.

No apologies needed. Everything is good and well.
I am glad that you have a passion for the pollinators, we need them very much to pollinate our fruits and vegetables so we can have good food. Smiling

The TX mistflower was an especial favorite of the Monarch. It did spread vigorously, and it had less of an upright habit than the Conoclineum colestinum. I'd think it would do pretty well in a container.
