Yes and even during the winter months with out pollinating, I got seed pods. I let the pods turn red and planted but nothing came out of them. I think they were sterile even through they developed. It took 6 months for them to turn red.
I personally hate to see them bloom due to ending the growing cycle for the node, but they do pup so much that you can't notice anything.

I have found that using "turkey grit" found in local feed stores is great for all my succulents. Gives them good drainage even in plastic, self watering pots. When I put them out for the summer on my deck, I do have to dumpa ny water accumulating in the drain saucers. The grit is very small granite chips .
Only 1 problem when they bloom, necter is very sticky! I had one piece that fell out of the pot, hanging on the edge, knocked off by a coon. It layed on the deck all summer, no soil, water. I picked it up, put it in a pot and it grew!

Poultry Grit is great for succulents but I like to use large perlite for my sansevieria due to less weight and seems to have more air inside for the roots. I don't sift it or nothing. Use even the dust with my potting mix.

Looking again @ Kathy's pic, I wonder if it's the same as mine. I don't see a flat side on your plants' leaves, Kathy. 'Fernwood' has leaves that are "D" shape in cross-section. Yours looks like cylindrica or some other species or cultivar with an "O" shaped cross-section. Or it could just be that the angle of your pic didn't happen capture a flat side that does exist.

You are correct, Tiffany, mine is Cylindrica. Branches are cylinder shaped, about 38" long and vibrant.
A favorite in my windowsill collection.

That sounds like a big plant! I had to get rid of my regular S. trifasciata because of space issues. Tough decisions.

Space is always a consideration! Underplanting in larger containers may work. Has anybody tried this? One of the ones stush shared with me is fairly short, 8-10" leaves, and it pupped enough that I divided it into 3 pieces and spaced it around one of my ficus trees. Eventually, it will totally underplant that tree, but for now there are coleus cuttings tucked between.

I know ficus like more moisture than sans, but I figure the top layer of potting mix in a big container will be more dry. Maybe I should mix perlite into the top layer? I just repotted that ficus, so its roots don't really start spreading out until 3" down. The ficus roots may also take up enough water to help with any drainage issue.

I always thought sansevieria was considered the best plant 'air cleaner/oxygen provider', as far as houseplants go.
I learned from a radio program, that NASA provided data from research telling the Gerbera jamesonii, the bamboo palm and the florist chrysanthemum are even more effective.

If plants are similar to humans in that increased air cycling would correspond to increased moisture cycling, I wouldn't look toward such slow growing plants as Sans for doing much for the air. Doesn't it seem like a plant would have a slow overall metabolism, or whatever that would be called for a plant, if it is one known for not needing/using much moisture? If that's a realistic thing, then it makes sense that the Sans aren't at the top of any "air cleaning ability" list because Sans use water so much more slowly than so many other plants. They're not cacti, by far, but sooooo many other plants need so much more water. These thoughts could be far from reality, just going with gut instinct theory.

The difference is moot; those 1989 experiments have long since been shown to have little application in everyday conditions in typical buildings. The experiments were conducted in small, sealed environments, not a house. It's since been proven that simply opening a window is more effective at purifying indoor air than installing houseplants. Doesn't mean that having indoor plants isn't good for your mental health; just don't count on them to benefit your lungs.

It's amazing how persistent and maleable some stories are. Not only won't this one go away, alleged air purification claims keep growing and spreading. The number of articles in a single Google search is astonishing.

Bud spotted today. About the same time as last year on this clump that is bullying the other plants in this pot. Time to dig a bunch of it out again.

I guess this plant isn't a Sansevieria anymore.
Dracaena francisii

Cut this off tonight, and trimmed it much shorter.
Guess you would let this dry a few days before transplanting.

Adorable! I never let Sans separations or cuttings dry, but doubt it would hurt anything or make much of a difference in the eventual outcome. Let us know how it goes!

At my house, Dracaenas are still just trees and Sans are snake plants are sword plants. I will never call any Sans a Dracaena. I reiterate how ridiculous I think that is. Also seems like a good example that DNA may not be the end-all, be-all that it has been used as lately.

I'm with 'purpleinopp'. The DNA is not yet complete on this subject. To me, I will always use the old term Sansevieria. Letting the cut dry is always a good idea to help stop fungle spread and promotes quicker healing. Only a few days would do. Use of something like 'Rootone' helps also.
I am getting too old to keep up with all my plants and would love to give most away. Shipping is getting too expensive now to ship out.
I saw yesterday at our local Walmarts Sans. futura flame in large 6" pots selling for under $20 dollars. What a deal.
