I wasn't looking for this picture. I was just standing in the yard when something odd was in my peripheral vision.

Imagine my surprise when I finally tracked the movement settled on a plant!

Yeah, yeah, that's what everyone says! Hilarious! That's a great shot, but boy, you've got to feel sorry for them...

Where is @GrammaChar when you need her??

That's pretty neat @Yardenman. Some of them are quite striking. We spotted a large hawkmoth here last year, probably 3 to 3-1/2" long, and we found several hawkmoth pupae when we were digging potatoes.

Well, it does help to always have a small digital camera in your pocket...

And I love the hawkmoths. They are neat to watch. I never saw one before I noticed one at a nursery and asked the staff about them.

Then, knowing of them, I saw them all around my gardens. You have to know what to look for to see it sometimes...

Thank you! The picture was ignored for 7 days, so I thought maybe everyone had a picture like that and it was "ho-hum".

Now it seems it was a good one. I tip my hat to you.

This one showed up in my yard last year.

This one had a face. Some have faces, some have other patterns. I don't have the links handy but some photographers take pictures of them exclusively. Some are quite beautiful.

Here's a few links that show these beautiful creatures. Some links have pics of their pupal and caterpillar stages.

We just got home from our 10pm Wally run and found this hawkmoth hanging on the wall next to our front door. I haven't tried to identify it yet.
