Well, it does help to always have a small digital camera in your pocket...
And I love the hawkmoths. They are neat to watch. I never saw one before I noticed one at a nursery and asked the staff about them.
Then, knowing of them, I saw them all around my gardens. You have to know what to look for to see it sometimes...
