I'm trying to input a plant that I have had since 2013, but when I have finished it keeps defaulting to 2017. What am I doing wrong?

Welcome joannmorford,
Maybe you can be more specific as to where you are trying to input a plant?

I'm guessing you are using the 'Add an event report'? It always shows the calendar on the current year, month and date. That calendar is the 'Start Date'. You have to use the back arrows to get to the year and month you need and then click on a date that applies. There is an optional 'End date' where you type in your date but if you didn't change the start date, it defaults to the date you added it.

But looking at your list, I see that you have entered older dates so this may not actually be what you are asking. Shrug!

This is where a screen shot of the page in question would help. Thumbs up

Assuming one knows how to create and paste a screen shot (ha ha). I don't and may never know. I prefer words.

It had confused me at first also.
But Dave often asks for screen shots so I made the effort to learn to do a screen shot. Thumbs up

I actually did change the start date as you said. This happens when I have just added the plant to my list. I've discovered that if I go to a different task and then come back to that plant, it will work.

Thanks everyone for responding. This happens when I have just added a plant to my list and then add an event for acquiring the plant. I change the start date to the date that I got the plant and save the event. The new event shows the start date as "today''s date" instead of the date that I had changed to. I have discovered that if I leave that plant and then come back to it, it saves the new date properly.

Did you click on Add the event after you selected the date?

Here are my screen captures to show the steps using one of my plants I have in my list, as you can see, on the left side it tells me it's in my list. From there I click the "Add an Event Report".
Thumb of 2017-06-08/Calif_Sue/b1fb15

This is the page to add that event. I selected 'Potted Up' and June 4th and then clicked the button "Add the event to this plant".
Thumb of 2017-06-08/Calif_Sue/d4ef0c

Once I click that I get this page and you can see it registered with the correct date. I then click at the bottom « View Shrub Begonia (Begonia 'Gene Daniels') in the plants database.
Thumb of 2017-06-08/Calif_Sue/198a7e

Which now takes me back to the entry and shows the two events I have entered.
Thumb of 2017-06-08/Calif_Sue/83e1eb

And it also shows in my list
