Finally broke down and bought 2 dehumidifiers. Been thinking about getting one for a few years. Costco had them at a price I couldn't refuse. Sometimes our humidity inside our house gets a high as 63%! One is upstairs, one is downstairs. It pulls out 2-3 gallons a day EACH! I pull out the collection bucket and the banana trees are loving the extra water. I suppose it's not really free since it takes electricity to run the things. But the humidity is down 20% so there may be a savings using our HVAC. I am sure once the humidity evens out and it starts pulling less water, I won't get as much water collected. But for now, plants are happy and I am not wasting it.

I think something's wrong with our HVAC. The guy is coming out again to fix it. It's not pulling the humidity out of the air. Without the 2 dehumidifiers, it can get past 55% humidity in the house. And the AC is running constantly. Cha-CHING! I empty the dehumidifiers 2x/day still. Since the watering systems are taking care of the outside pretty well, I am pouring gallons into the rain barrel, collecting for when, probably come August, I will need to start watering the pots daily. I am not so sure I want the guy to repair the HVAC??? LOL
