Got hooked on sedums this year. We have added a greenhouse at our property we are going to keep open year round with a pellet stove and natural gas heater.

We have metal halide and high pressure sodium lights to supplement light for our tropical plants.


Id like to continue sedum propagation through winter but Ive read where some sedums like a dormant period.

If we maintain summer time conditions with temp and artificial light in the greenhouse, would we still be able to grow sedums like it was the growing season or would they suffer from not going dormant?

Any help is appreciated.

It depends on what type of sedum you plan on growing. There are the tender,more tropical sedum and there are the winter hardy types of sedum. The winter hardy types do need a dormancy time.
What are your winters like, where in the world do you live? That type of information will help in answering your question.

I apologize for my vagueness. The sedums varieties I have in containers are Blue Spruce, red wiggle,sichotense, sexangulare, confusum,cooperi,Angelina, album blaticum, coral carpet and blue mound dasyphyllum. I'm listed in zone 5....north of Chicago.

All of those should be hardy in your growing zone 5. They will need a winter dormancy. With the exception of confusum, it will not be hardy in your growing zone. That does need a bit of down time but should do well in your greenhouse.
The others you can keep outdoors, and in the spring when you see signs that they are breaking dormancy you can divide the root mass, or take cuttings when they are actively growing again in the spring.
Is your cooperii a delosperma? If so you can try both methods for it. Greenhouse and outdoor dormancy.
