Tonight I tried searching for 2 irises, to add them to my plant list. Neither of them showed up when I did the search (for iris <name>), yet when I tried to add them as new plants, in each case I got a message (are you sure you want to add this plant?) with a link to a database entry for the plant! What the heck? Confused

The plants were Iris 'Baltimore' (the search returned 'Lady Baltimore' and 'Lord Baltimore') and 'Adriatic Noble'.

The only reason I can think why they might not have shown up in the search is because they are 2017 intros. But still! I have the plants in my hot grubby hands, and the data IS there in the database, so I should be able to search and find them.

Also, when I add the plants to my plant list (from the page with the database entry), for some reason the view on my plant list keeps getting reset to show ALL the plants that I have, not just the irises. It's annoying (but not as annoying as searching for a plant that IS in the database, yet not being able to find it.)
Evaluating an iris seedling, hopefully for rebloom

I'm not an expert. I know nothing about Iris, and less about taxomony. My guess is you'd get a better answer on either the Plant Database Forum or the site talk forum.

The database can be Confused at times.

When I do a search for Iris Baltimore, only the following two show up:
Tall Bearded Iris (Iris 'Lord Baltimore')
Tall Bearded Iris (Iris 'Lady Baltimore')

When I search, typing in just the name Baltimore, Tall Bearded Iris (Iris 'Baltimore') shows up in the list of all plants containing the name Baltimore.

When I searched for Iris Adriatic Noble or Tall Bearded Iris Adriatic Noble, I get no returns but when I type in just Adriatic Noble, the correct entry comes up.

I think @KentPfeiffer is an Iris expert and also a DB Administrator so he may be able to help.

edited to add: I suggested a proposal to move this thread to the Plant Database Forum.

@dave, seems like there is a definite glitch here. If you try the general plant Search by Name, entering "Iris Baltimore" or "Iris 'Baltimore'" does NOT return the plant in question. Lin is correct - only searching for "Baltimore" finds it. According to the plant entry history, that database entry has been there since 30th November 2016.

The current profile image is that of Iris 'Volcanic Glow'.

I found the problem why it's doing that, and I'm working on fixing it.

I updated it but I have to refresh the search index before the fix takes effect. This may take a couple hours but once that is done, the problem should be resolved.

Looks like it's working properly now. Smiling Thanks for the report.
