I'll most likely visit here to ask how to encourage wildlife- deer, rabbits, raccoons, possums, etc- to hang out in my neighbor's yards rather than mine...

Rolling on the floor laughing The only way I can think of to keep them out would be to turn your yard into a conservatory or greenhouse by completely enclosing it.

Probably for deer you need fencing. Or a big dog that chases them away. But that would be a great topic for this forum. I don't have any deer so I figgure I am not the right person to start a deer thread but I think we should have one.

On there we could discuss fencing and other methods that have worked for us to keep deer out of the garden. We if any try to attract deer because they like to have them around.

Our fence keeps out deer, dogs and hogs (assuming the gates are closed)...things like that. It doesn't keep out raccoons, armadillos, squirrels, snakes...and many other things. Actually the deer in our area don't want to be in our yard...they're very wary of people, probably because of hunting...which isn't allowed inside the subdivision, but it does occur anyway. Even though I feed deer to keep them alive during the worst part of the drought, they are afraid of all humans. The kind of wildlife I am truly afraid of is the wild hogs. I have no pics of them, because even if they were out in daytime (they are usually nocturnal), I wouldn't be out there taking those pics.

I have heard that wild boar are mean and nasty. Didn't realise that they ran around wild in Texas.

We have Feral Hogs here in Florida too and I'm glad I've never seen one. They can get big (up to 300 lbs) can be aggressive and prey on turtles and other small animals. There are estimates of @ 2 million wild pigs roaming the south!

Pigs are smart. I know they have a bad rep because they like to wallow in the mud and eat and eat. But really they are quite intelligent. That doesn't mean I would like to run into any pigs roaming around though, wild or otherwise.

Estimates on the nonnative feral hogs in Texas range from 1.9 to 4 million of them. They are a danger to other animals and occasionally to humans. The estimated damages to rural farms and ranches, not to mention landscaping around houses is very substantial and hunting (allowed year-round where not otherwise restricted) and trapping just isn't controlling the population.
