I think Hemnorth has already posted a photo of this Rudbeckia subtomentosa Henry Eilers, this is the parent plant I think, easily ten feet tall every year by the pond, and five feet in the first year post division. If you like tall go for Henry E. Just a warning I will combine letters after S, because lets face it this soup is almost ready to serve!

I believe the original Henry Eilers was discovered about 35 miles south of me.
I hadn't a clue that it could attain the size noted above...

Thanks for this link. I just assumed that this max height is typical, I have only grown it for about 6 years, and recently gave a clump to Hemnorth and then last year moved a piece down to an average full sun acidic soil site below and it got up to 5 feet. It would be of interest to me if the height it gets in the rich wet soil of the pool side, where I have a crack in the rock letting water out on a regular basis all summer is the reason for this height, and under average conditions its not so huge. I am always interested in phenotypic variation in plants.

Red Oak leaf retention in spring, why decidous trees do this mystifies me, I mean I realize there is some advantage to protecting the bud scales and buds, but do they have to make a mess AFTER i have raked all that winter debris away in spring? Never mind, I love them anyway.
