Thinking about trying the low chill cherry variety available from bobwellsnursery.com the royal lee and the Minnie lee. Developed in Modesto ca, and producing Cherries in zone 8 and 9 with 200 chill hour requirements. Has anybody tried these yet? I'm intrigued because I grew up in zone 4 high altitude desert and loved cherry trees growing up.

I doubt seriously Canyon Lake will get the chill hours a cherry needs, yup, Hondo Valley in NM taught me about cherries and my love of them. Plus, you have that caliche caprock thing going there...zone 8 and 9 in Cali is a bit farther north than you would expect.

We've got the native escarpment black cherry trees, which is favored by some wildlife. Not a good place here for edible cherries for people, if that is what you want. Sorry.
