Yesterday a new member posted a question and was apparently impatient because she posted it again a little later in the day.

I had lamely tried to give her some answers and said I hoped someone else would jump in. I also said (perhaps poorly worded) that I would get back to her later.

Last night I was scrolling through the AAQ forum and saw that she posted her question again. The 2nd post was shorter but still addressed the main issue. Plus, WillC replied to this 2nd post and might not have been aware of the first one.

I think I've seen other members do this on occasion. Or maybe it was a discussion about that practice. So anyway, do 'we' ever in some way combine or suggest combining or just comment about the duplication?

I'm not questioning anyone's ability to address the issue(s) posted. I'm the first to admit that I have a severe lack of knowledge. I just find it problematic when a member feels the need to post the same thing more than once in the same day. If no one else has a problem with duplicate posting then I'll just quietly slink away.

It's not an exact duplicate. The first one is much longer. She wanted to know what type of fern, what the white stuff on it was, and what the blisters were.

The 2nd time she only asked about the white stuff.

Is there a way to combine them? Or perhaps include a reference to each?

There was one post in the "growing baby ferns" article in the learning library, and then another post in Ask a Question. It may not have been impatience as much as trying to figure out how the site works, or maybe couldn't find the growing baby ferns article again since it is not one of the forums. The easiest way to link them would be to post a link to the growing baby ferns article in the AAQ forum thread I'd have thought.

Ok. I'm definitely confused. The member's User ID has changed in both of the posts. On his/her profile page, the Name field has the original ID but separated by blanks as it had been multi-words. (Don't know if I should name him/her here.)

The post in the 'growing baby ferns' was originally in AAQ. In fact, it was there earlier today. So I don't know who did what but I think I'm going to bow out of this.

I do agree that new members, or maybe most of us, have problems sometimes in figuring out how the site works.
