Thanks all, the miniature hula hoop thingy was a rattan ottoman that rotted out. I had used it for years as a table with a piece of wood on it and decided to paint it the same as my tires that I'm working on. it's still a work in progress

Somewhere I saw tires used like yours and they had been turned inside out so the tread didn't show. I can just see me trying to turn a tire inside out.

Can't remember where I saw that but I don't think it was on this forum. Actually it was very pretty and I think the tires had all been painted a bronze-ish color and some were stacked to make a raised garden bed. Must have been huge tires for that.

I wouldn't begin to know how to turn a tire inside out

here's one being turned inside out... it makes a planter with a stand... they have cut one sidewall of the tire... they have cut a zig zag line aroung the side wall... must have used a 4 " grinder with an abrasive wheel on it... plunging the wheel into the sidewall would give you that short line then you could plunge for the next one... this gives the lovely scalloped edge to the pot... as well as having it on the edge of the stand... go get em...

I have one of those tire planters. I saw it on the way home years ago and stopped to inquire, the guy sold it to me for $5.00. It was the start of his home business. I'll have to take a pic of it tomorrow.

Saw some nice bonsai plants in Japantown SFO last Saturday, and they call the method kokedama..searched for more info and saw this site with awesome photos..very artsy way of planting..hanging on a string or can be on a saucer:

Oh Sally when I saw that pic of your string thing, I didn't have my glasses on and I could have sworn you had a pic of my old rooster Dorky. He was a crested something or other, can't remember. His top looked just like your plant. and yes he was a dork.

OH.. I've put together a few things for the garden.. been working on the American Dream Catcher..some LED lighting to accent it at night.. and found the red hoop bracelets.. @ 5/$1.00 to make the red hanging item in it..

and some work on the pond.. the underwater lighting.. the fogger.. and pump .. each year I think I'll do something with it.. so I have it flowing back into the pond from the hands
