All eggplants are looking great this morning and looks like putting on new growth already since being planted out. But I am still waiting for the ones I ordered from Parks to arrive.

First flowers on Japanese eggplant; beautiful:

First scary-looking, possibly painful-if-touched caterpillar eating leaves of Japanese eggplant:

(I think it is the White-marked Tussock Moth caterpillar - Orgyia leucostigma; if it is, they are not partial to eggplant leaves but will eat most anything.)

That is a neat looking caterpillar - if only it was not munching on your plants.

I had hoped to sow some eggplants this year, but never to it. I put 2 in the ground a month or so ago, but since I have never had prolific plants, I figure 2 was not going to be enough. So, I went out and bought a six-pack last week, potted them up to 4 inch pots and will put them in the ground in two weeks when they get a little bigger. I only grow the long Japanese variety now. Now that others are mentioning holes in their eggplant leaves, I do see that in mines too. But, I never saw any bugs on the leaves so I have never done anything,

I didn't think the eggplant had started, but discovered these under all the leaves:

The little raised bed garden is producing quite a few of the Ichiban Japanese eggplants. In one picture you can see a tiny green tomato just starting.

I'm growing classic and petite (they grow to the size of your finger) egg plants this year. I didn't start them from seeds. I picked them up at the nursery.

I think one of my eggplant is the Japanese, the other fingerling. Planning to make bite size eggplant Parmesan. Greene, is it hotter in GA summers than in TX? Your eggplant are bigger. I bought mine mid march.

I've only been to Texas twice and it was February both times so I don't know how hot it is where you are. We had a few days over 85˚F; that's when the some lettuces bolted and the eggplant grew like crazy.

I checked back through the photos; this is what the eggplants looked like on April 17th:

Thumbs up Great eggpants everyone. I planted a si9x pack of Ichiban so think I should get plenty of them. I had one plant of Ichiban last year and it was a very nice eggplant. Cause I have lots of other types also. Can't wait for ready fruits.

Rita - I got a 6 pack of the ichibans too, in hopes of having at least a decent harvest. I only had 2 last year, and they were not very prolific. I hope to do better this year Hilarious!

I got a couple of them in the ground yesterday, but with 2 days of over 100 degrees, I am waiting a couple of days to plant the rest of them.

I thought they are nice ones but my one plant last year was not a super productive one either. This year should have lots sine I have so many plants.

Plus not the only type of eggplant that I have so the season should be good.

Do eggplant have only one batch? Or do they produce all summer?
