I have occasionally noted opinions posted as facts in the database, which just feels wrong to me. We have a comment section, and that should be the place for opinions and growing experiences. An example is Acer palmatum 'Shindeshojo' which includes the following comment in the leaf description: "Shindeshojo reportedly produces the best red spring foliage color of any of the Japanese maples in cultivation. Leaves emerge in spring in a bright and showy crimson red. Foliage retains that good red color for at least one month before gradually fading." This is clearly an opinion to me, specific to wherever the poster lives. Isn't that what the comment section is for? I have this same cultivar. Mine emerges a vivid orange-yellow, stays orange through the summer, and perhaps gets a bit reddish in the fall. I would never think to call it the 'best red' of my Japanese maples.

Yes, that should be in the comment section, especially given its length. A more appropriate entry would be to state that the foliage colour varies from orange to red depending on growing conditions.

Should I make a specific proposal to move this comment? And to whom should it be directed? On a similar note, has it ever been discussed to simply have a drop-down list for foliage color? That way folks could check more than one color if it varies.

I'm going to delete the description in the "other" field. Adding it as a comment would be plagiarism. It's copied from the MoBot site's description of the plant without any attribution.

Thanks Sue. From the photos in the database this particular maple does appear to vary quite a bit from orange to red. Perhaps the amount of sun/shade affects the color. Or the geographic area. Who knows.
