We have a lot of salamanders but they are way to fast to get a pic unless you can catch one. I wouldn't mind catching one but I read recently that they carry Salmonella , as do many snakes, frogs and lizards, as well as their droppings. Yikes I Think back to the many snakes frogs and lizards I caught as a kid. Never got sick from one.

Lots of Peepers last year, saw only 1 this year, thinking it was our strange spring.
Rarely see toads, lots this year!

Toads are great way to help control insects... We have some huge ones down by the river pond. But they eat all my fish eggs and tiny new fish from the pond. So every year have lots of babies and by fall still have the same number of fish and no babies to be found.

I posted this on another forum but I will post it here. My barred owl on a water lily container pond on the pool deck. My neighbors 2 houses down have 15 acres (the rest of us have 5). They have a natural spring fed pond on their property that always has some water in it but catches rainfall and acts almost like a retention pond. They have never done anything with it, it just has a lot of spatterdock (cow lily) in it. Its water level has dropped now that the rain has stopped for a week and every day a single beautiful snowy egret and a lovely single white ibis have been coming to hunt frogs. My husband and I have seen them everyday for a week. We call them 'the fishing buddies'. I am going to try and get a photo of them.

Gina, WOW .... great pick of the owl. I'm gald you posted again I didn't see the origional post. It's amazing how well the owl is camouflaged perched on the pot. It almost looks unreal, such a nice spot to perch and check out your pond. We hear them but never can find them.

Your very lucky to catch this guy during the day. He's a beauty! I always wondered what has happened to all the tree frogs we used to have. they are so loud but tricky to find, but not for the owls. Never thought the Owls were on to them usually they are so busy with the mice in the fields.

I agree that was a fantastic shot of the owl. He looked like a part of the pot until I enlarged the photo.

Thank you for your kind words! I saw another one yesterday, I looked out the glass door that opens onto the patio off of my bedroom in the early morning and she was perched on a fallen tree looking at my new rock patio intently. I think she was looking at field mice, when the carpenters dismantled the deck last week there were old creosote railroad ties underneath and one had a mouse hole chewed out into a cavity inside. I think the mouse family is still living in there. As soon as she saw the curtain move, she flew away. We too rarely see them, but hear them ALL the time, especially now in the fall season.
I went by the neighbor's pond on the way to take the recycling to the end of the road and only the Ibis was fishing this morning...the Egret will probably show up later. If we get the rain predicted to fall in association with Hurricane Michael, by Thursday this pond will be full again and there may be a flock. Sometimes we get lucky and a Little Blue Heron comes to fish in this pond.

Gina what a great camera pic. Is that a natural pond? It's a pretty good size. Fishing getting ready for the winter.

Well your in Florida ...
Hope you stay safe thru the hurricane season.
