Thank you for your kind words! I saw another one yesterday, I looked out the glass door that opens onto the patio off of my bedroom in the early morning and she was perched on a fallen tree looking at my new rock patio intently. I think she was looking at field mice, when the carpenters dismantled the deck last week there were old creosote railroad ties underneath and one had a mouse hole chewed out into a cavity inside. I think the mouse family is still living in there. As soon as she saw the curtain move, she flew away. We too rarely see them, but hear them ALL the time, especially now in the fall season.
I went by the neighbor's pond on the way to take the recycling to the end of the road and only the Ibis was fishing this morning...the Egret will probably show up later. If we get the rain predicted to fall in association with Hurricane Michael, by Thursday this pond will be full again and there may be a flock. Sometimes we get lucky and a Little Blue Heron comes to fish in this pond.
