This is a tropical hardwood tree and is harvested for interior finishes, like cabinetry, interior staircases, and similar. It is difficult to imagine it being endangered but i do not know the official status at this time. I would be interested to know if it is commercially grown.

It is known to grow in areas of central to south Mexico and in Central America. It appears to appreciate coastal areas.

I have not yet seen the fruit or tasted it but each fruit is said to yield 1 seed per fruit.

There are several different common names for this tree depending upon the region in which it grows. This is common in Mexico. There are indigenous names, post Columbian names, Catholic names so special care is required when matching a common name to a modern day botanical name.

It is not clear to me if this is a forum post or a data base post, but it was meant to be a post to the database.

Thank you for your help. I am afraid you have not heard the last of me. In my mind, I have appropriated a big chunk of this wood, which i will modestly dub "Beverly Wood" *Blush* Hilarious! . It runs directly across from where i live. I will be the caretaker and student and protector of this magnificent area of fauna and flora, giving wide berth to the solar house being built at a lower elevation, and also a solar house some distance up the road. These neighbors did not come out with heavy machinery and level everything in sight. They carved out just enough space for their homes to snuggle into the surrounding flora in such an elegant and modest way.

@Calif_Sue well, you have to factor in the scorpions, wasps, and scary spiders as well. I expected mosquitoes too but we are on a mini mountain and get a lot of wind which is really nice because it keeps the heat and humidity in check and i also think it keeps the mosquitoes away. The scorpions like to be nearer to the water and so far i have only seen one, but who knows what is lurking in the thickets Rolling my eyes.
