Ohhhh!

My dragon fruit cactus bud aborted. Must have had too much rain, it turned brown and went mushy just before it was set to open!

Nuts! I was looking forward to seeing that.

Well, there's good news with the bad, I was thinking it wasn't in a great location anyway. Too much sun. It hasn't yet attached to the fence, luckily

So . . I'm going to move it to the fence on the other side of the house under the biggest oak. It seems to really like being misted with the orchid fert, so it will be "in the line of fire" in the new spot - very near the big horizontal branch with my brassavola experiment, and the Laelia anceps on it.

Won't be quite so easy for me to smell the flowers, sadly. But if it grows well, that will compensate.

Im so excited Ive been wondering what this Oncidium is for years and it hasent flowered, i can't even remember where i got it, a swap online i think. I never knew what the flowers were though and looks like i may find out as i just moved it while my greenhouse had to be moved and it now has 2 big spikes. I know i know it still has a while to open yet. hehe! Its a huge plant that takes up alot of room but i never could get rid of it without knowing what the flower look like, i dont really like Oncidiums so we'll see...

do you think this is a spike or bulb on my Cymbidium?

Given that it's winter down there, and erring on the side of optimism, I'd say it's a spike, Bree. Cross your fingers!

C. Chocolate Drop 'Kodama' has two (sort of sickly looking) spikes. Will more fert help??


Howeara Lava Burst 'Puanani' has been blooming on the other 3 plants for over a month, and now the fourth plant in the bowl has spikes too.

I don't think they look sickly. I would just make sure they get enough good light without burning.

Thanks, yes I did move it to a higher light situation. I'm troubled that it will bloom while I am out of town next week. DH is staying home but he won't go looking for orchids . ..

I have a big fat spike on my Chia Lin 'New City' as well. It will no doubt burst into bloom while I'm away, too.

Nah, the Chia Lin is still quite some weeks away from blooming, I would think. Nice sheath.

I agree, the Chia Lin has a ways to go and I think Bree is going to have some flowers on her Cim in the near future.

That's a relief! I'd sure hate to miss a minute of Chia Lin's gorgeous flowers.

And this Oncidium Dancing Lady, though the pseudobulbs got really small after I repotted it and separated half of it, it has sent out a spike..hoping it will continue to grow:

I have Blc Mem Hans Graf x Blc Edisto about to pop - it's agonizing to watch and wait! I just bought this orchid in bloom last fall, and this is its second re-bloom for me!

I can't wait to see it!
