What are these black bugs? Aphids? I thought aphids were green? Seems my plumeria has an infestation of them causing massive leaf drop on an otherwise warm sunny environment. I m not sure how to get rid of them? Its tight quarters in the greenhouse! They are not on other plants and seem to target perfectly healthy, non-dormant plumeria.

I've had aphids in a lot of different colors, Cheryl. The green seem most common, but mine have also been black, brown, orange and even a yellow type. I just spray a lot with Safer Soap or horticultural oil.

I agree with Karen. A bad infestation of aphids. I use Bonide Horticultural spray too which is safe for all plants. It needs to be done every few days until you are sure they are gone. Every year when I move plants into the greenhouse I get attacks from aphids, spider mites or white flies. Irritating but hard for me to prevent.

I experience the same thing, MIchael, no matter how hard I try to clean them up before moving them inside. Sighing!

I have never had bugs in my GH before so thanks for your help. I tip my hat to you. I didn't recognize them right away and thought it was just dirt.

I soaked the plant leaves the best I could this morning. It is tight quarters in there. But I hit is pretty good with soapy water. Hoping they don't spread. Sad because we have been so mild those plumeria had a chance to winter over very nicely in there. I'll treat it again over the weekend.
