These aren't exactly the 'latest' introductions, but 'Double Click' is one of my favorites. Anyone tried the new 'Cupcakes', or light yellow 'Xanthos'? I will have to get more, as some sort of caterpillar ate so many of the seeds!

I have seeds for both those cosmos but haven't grown them out yet. They look good in the catalogs. Hope they live up to it.

Beautiful new cosmos. As if they weren't gorgeous before these make my heart smile!

I've grown the sister to 'Xanthos', 'Xsenia'. The flowers produced were just as the published photos suggested and are so nice: definitely worth growing again. If I have a decent picture I'll post it later. Your 'Double Click' pics are so pretty!

Xsenia looks really nice. I didn't notice that one before.
Now I see Capriola Cosmos
and Pink Popsocks. Everything is so tempting as soon as the leaves fall off.

The one thing that worries me about cupcake cosmos is they don't look like they would handle rain well.

@LorettaNJ DoubleClick' can 'nod' under their own petal weight, anyway., . As for 'Cupcakes', what grew for me previously were actually more like 'Popsocks'.'. May buy from a different source, to see if they have more fused petals, with fewer or none in the center. @bumplbea I am glad you enjoyed the photos. I will have to check out the other yellow variety mentioned, I think I recall the Cosmos did ok. with summer rain, except for those extremely double 'Double Click' flowers,
By comparison, 'Cupcakes', can't nearly be as bad after a rainfall as those fragile poppies such as 'Angels Choir' & Falling In Love' or similar cultivars., Oh, speaking of that, there is a new totally charcoal gray form that may get introduced called 'Amazing Grey', (or Gray) if I'm not mistaken.. ( I already had forms show up, that were just about the same as 'Pandora'.) Many years ago, after the loss of availabilty to Thompson & Morgan, I found it more difficult to get the solid grey isolated & was unable to save the seeds, from it.

@ShawnSteve I can't get a hit on Cosmos 'Amazing Grey'. Just furniture and wallpaper or other cosmos. Sounds interesting.
Thanks for letting me know about cupcake. I read one review that said they were very tall - 54"
Angels Choir has never germinated for me!

@LorettaNJ. It might be offered by Floret (near Skagit, in WA. State. THere is a blog & many add her photos to Pinterest. I think her name is Erin Benzakein, if any of that info helps...Otherwise, I think the seeds may not be available, until Jan. 2, 2019...
As for 'Angels Choir' that seed is very tiny. Smaller than most other similar varieties. It needs cool weather to germinate
.I have ordinary pink Cosmos in a 72 cell seed tray flowering at about 8 or so niches, alongside biennials, perennials & pansies, that are underfed. Were supposed to be C. atrosanguineus, but was just a cheap scam....
I have had Cosmos sulphureus grow well over 6 feet tall ( in August without a single bloom)! Maybe somebody thought they wanted lots of flowers & quicker & used way too much fertilizer on their Cupcakes....

'Amazing Gray' is a Poppy (not cosmos). It's gorgeous!

I believe it was accomplished through selection. There were double flowered 'Angels Choir' from Thompson & Morgan. If you look on the seed packet in Google images, you may see the grey flowered form on the packet! I know, it almost seems photo shopped, But that grower has a rather large scale operation going.
You would be amazed at the sheer size of the Iceland poppies she grows for production, to sell in the cut flower market business trade

I know Chocolate Cosmos isn't an annual,, but has anyone grown the seeds of any Cosmos atrosanguineus, cultivars offered online? I have recently sown 'Black Magic'.

@LorettaNJ You grew the Chocolate Cosmos from seeds? I just started 'Black Magic' & they seem to be doing alright, considering the cloudy weather today. Did you buy or trade, for your seeds? What went wrong, that they didn't get large enough to bloom?
I ask, because years ago, some used to trade for the seeds, many years ago on that website now called Houzz..
Thanks, Shawn

I think I got them from Jonna Sudenius in Belgium but I read she took her site down due to bad health. I did have low germination and the plants grew very slow. There wasn't a tuber formed by fall and they didn't transition to indoors. I even got a nice large healthy plant one year and it burned out before fall. It isn't that showy compared to other cosmos and has an effect similar to the new bidens. Bidens performs better. I have some photos of a mass planting on my computer. When I am on it again, I'll post them. However if you know how to use them to better effect, I'm all ears.

@LorettaNJ O You were fortunate to get the seeds. Sorry they didn't perform well. I grew my first one from a packet of wildflower seeds. Since I had noticed the tubers were for sale, that spring, which I just happened to see, I thought not much more about it. That is, until I saw a Thompson & Morgan catalog, which offered money, for seeds! Then researched it & had already accidentally pulled it up, along with weeds & it was so extremely hot that day, just threw away... but had smelled them first, so I new exactly what it was. But the garbage collection went out & I was too late to retrieve it. If it hadn't been nearly 95 F that day, I might have replanted it, but felt like I was nearly ready to faint, as it was humid & no breeze, either. Like a heatwave... Oh well, I learned my lesson. Now, it is a matter of sowing indoors, to get an early start.
The original one I grew, was near the foundation of the house, near brick & had western exposure, so it really got reflected heat, to keep it warm & bloomed approximately just over 3 months later. The soil was sandy, so that may have helped prevent the seedling, which eventually grew tubers, from rotting

Interesting that they bloomed 3 months for you. Here is the photo I promised. It was taken in September. I don't think they passed peak since there weren't spent flowers and they didn't look cut back but not sure they reached it either.

@LorettaNJ That's very nice, though the flower seems a little more on red side, than what I am used to seeing. The one I grew by chance, was really very short- less than a foot tall! But it sure was a true species.. I wish somebody could get a few seeds out of Mexico, but that is illegal, since about 1940's. I hope the ones from Baker Creek do well, as they are supposed to be cool season growers, so I already have the four little buggers potted up, keep near a window sill or move to near a sliding glass door... Thanks for sharing!
