I first got turned off by those things when I had 2 plants die. Both were purchased and well cared for. They up and died. I dug them up and looked closely. After shaking away the soil, I found the ladies hose material nodding and roots that tried to get thru and never made it. And the plants perished.

And when I have tried them myself, I have been unsatisfied - realizing when I plant them that I should remove the hose material. Too much hassle and besides - germination was no better than using media. And media far less expensive.
