I'm zone 9b, on the Northern end of of the Central Coast near Santa Cruz, and don't have rust or mildew problems with my New Dawn... some Black Spot, but not a huge amount. I also grew it in Los Altos for many years with no problems. Both zones 9b, but different...

Belle of Portugal is another one that I've seen up trees around here..
