We do have the option to make our profiles private. Whatever we post is all that anyone will see. I myself use a fake first name, a real growing zone and a general location (as I do not actually live in the city of Savannah proper but very close by).
That's enough to get good answers to gardening questions.

By the way...there are other ways for people to learn your location. When you post photos most people are savvy enough to look for the metadata which often includes GPS. It would be smart to delete the information before posting the photos if one is concerned about privacy. (I just learned that recently.)
