Kathy I think I'm going to use your method for my Clematis Rooguchi next year.

Tarev, I grew my passies next to a south facing brick wall and even with a hard freeze they kept going with new growth through the winter! I'm thinking the brick wall was probably releasing heat at night after collecting it in the day time.
