The gene for fragrance in roses is a recessive gene. Even if a breeder crosses two fragrant roses, it does not guarantee that the resulting seedlings will be fragrant.

I see that you joined NGA in December 2016. Here is a post where I posted some information written by one of my favorite rose authors in July 2016. It tells you what goes on inside the plant to create fragrance. I found it interesting. I hope you do, too.
