Wow a lot of questions!
I'm quite happy with the speed of my computer & internet connection, and I was not complaining, just suggesting a way to not load anything unnecessary when people check updates to a discussion. I'm confident Dave understood it. If the idea is unappealing to the owner of the site, that's fine. Not all suggestions could possibly be practical from behind the scenes. It's not something anyone would notice using the site unless they noticed pages on the site were loading more quickly.
My available time to spend on the internet is finite, as it is for all people who have families, jobs,
plants, any other aspects of their lives. Seconds add up.
IDK (I don't know) from where any particular abbreviations come. There were a bunch of them in this book from 1980:

Since the days of dial-up, Win 95, they've always been a part of chatting on the internet, on AOL, mIRC. There's LOL (laughing out loud) and so many others. I do not use them to save time, I type 120 wpm (words per minute,) but because I like them and if anyone does not know what they are already, they should be able to look them up, like a previously unseen word. I look up words I do not know as often as I see them, as I have my whole life. If someone says something I do not understand, it is not a mistake on their part, it is an opportunity for me to learn something. I can ask them to clarify, or look it up in a dictionary.
I have no idea what people do with phones besides make calls and send the occasional text like "Foot Locker" to find each other at the mall. LMBO! (laughing my butt off) The screen is so small, I would just be internet-free if that was my only option.
