The important thing to remember is that whatever fountain one uses (be it a stone or fiberglass rock fountain, or a giant vase) ensure that the basin perimeter is large enough that the water stays inside of the basin and does not flow out and around it. That was my biggest downfall.

I went at it without fully knowing what I was doing, and this caused a lot of unnecessary work. By best tip would be to find someone that has done this before (either in person or online) and find out what they did right and what they did wrong, then go with what you've learned. I hope that this helps.
