Elaine, if you like compact growing Phalaenopsis, keep your eyes open for the Dtps. genus (sometimes labeled Phal.). They are usually smaller than those standard ones and to my eyes have far more "interesting" flower colors and patterns. Some of the ones that I had and liked were Queen Beer (what an odd name, huh?) and any of the Sogo lineup, such as Dtps. Sogo Gotris, Sogo Vivien, and Sogo Yenlin. There are numerous compact Phal. too and the ones I liked that stayed quite small were Phal. equestris, Belina, Hitomi Watanabe, Lemon Chiffon, and Baldan's Kaleidoscope.
That was the much of the joy of being in the business, Elaine. I bought so many varieties over those 5 or so years. At one time I went back and counted the varieties that I bought and that I sold, and it was over 150 varieties that I bought that were blooming size and the majority in bud. I saw flowers from the vast majority of them. I am not counting all the seedling varieties, the compots, and the flasks that I had. That would easily total close to 100 varieties. The vast majority of those orchids were sold out before I ever saw a single flower.
