Different variations of Downy Mildew can affect other plants as well. A few years ago it was a huge problem affecting impatiens in New York and the northeast. The nurseries in my area either stopped selling them for the season, or put up a sign of caution stating that they might very well become infected in the buyers' gardens, and therefore could not be money-back-guaranteed. For two years, it was plant impatiens at your own risk. Thankfully, that threat has now passed, as I love impatiens and planted 100 of them this spring.
