If it is feeling mushy already to your touch, then I would cut it off till you see clean, no rot area. Then dab lightly with cinnamon. Just keep it warm and dry, no watering. Got to just wait it out till it is Spring again. Either you stick it in a dry media, or just leave it alone, dry and warm. It is dormant right now, just let it be.
