One of our dogs is a rescue that was chained outside, and in between used as a bait dog for fighting. Here, as in some other parts of the country, mosquitoes are actually a year round problem, and they spread heart worms. They never gave this dog any real vet care...her injuries from the ring were either just allowed to heal or given the home stitch up job. She was heart worm + when we got her and we had to get the shots for her. They were honest with us at the rescue, one of their volunteers heard about this dog and actually spirited it out from these sadist's yard. We don;t spread that around town though LOL
