When I was seriously in to daylilies about 20 years ago, alfalfa tea was THE fertilizer for hems so I don't see why it wouldn't be good for peonies too. Although I still have the pellets (don't ask) I never got round to making the tea (supposed to be very smelly) mostly because I don't use any fertilizer on any of my plants so no reason to start Rolling on the floor laughing
