If you haven't worn out your interest in primary sources, you might also be interested in E. H. Wilson's 1925 monograph, The Lilies of Eastern Asia. He writes well, and explains some of the differences between various ways of approaching the nomenclature of these lilies. The illustrations at the end are worth a look if you like to imagine these plants in their native habitat:
