Yesterday, I was in my greenhouse up potting some Anthurium seedlings. I needed to go outside to get something and while I was walking down the path to the door, I found a hummingbird on the ground. Its not uncommon for them to get into the greenhouse. They fly in while I am working, and usually fly back out. This one was laying on its back, I thought it was dead.

I picked it up and it moved a foot, and blinked an eye. I ran into the house with it, my daughter and 2 friends were there, the 2 friends own 13 birds, and one works in a bird shop. We mixed up sugar solution and took a syringe I keep for measuring things in milliliters and used it to mimic a flower with a drop if nectar on the tip. At first, it didn't work, then, the little bird started drinking. You could see its little throat moving.

It took a while, but it finally seems to have drunk enough, and it got perkier. It started moving in my hand a bit so we took it outside in case it tried to fly away. We didn't want to stress it further so we put in in a small empty net pot hanging under a bush out by the greenhouse. It stayed there for a while, then, when I came out to water some nearby containers, it flew into a nearby tree.

My theory is that it got in the GH and couldn't find its way out and exhausted itself flying around looking for the door. I never thought I would get to actually hold a live hummingbird

Hopefully it fully recovered and went about normal life. It was a day to remember in the garden
