Interesting looks like both watering approaches work quite well. Usually I tend towards deeper less frequent waterings to promote deeper root growth. The longer time between watering also helps to keep things dried out. I usually dump the water via watering can getting the stems leaves etc all wet.

This plant type also happens to be one where I am noting the difference between watering. This is a plant that was the same size when purchased as the one pictured above but I have it in a pot and in only gets natural rainfall. Still seems happy just smaller. We had a thunderstorm yesterday so its enjoying a rare summer rain. (third one this summer...)
