The foliage on mine was looking pretty bad, I have determined it is because of too much water, but I was looking through the leaves trying to see if there were any insects and that big thing appeared. I was not sure if it was at first if it was alive, I had never seen anything like that. Wait a few weeks and poke through the leaves, you too might find a surprise. I understand it can take up to a year to ripen.
