This article about past confusion between the luciae (off-white blooms) and thyrsiflora (yellow blooms) species might be of interest. Both are called paddle plants, &/or flapjack plants.

'Fantastic' is a really colorful Kalanchoe cultivar that IS fantastic in great light.
Flapjacks (Kalanchoe luciae 'Fantastic')

Baja's asked-about plant is not a Kalanchoe, but it does somewhat resemble the Kals mentioned.
